Update on training and development
Well-trained representatives are the backbone of our union, ensuring every member has the best possible support and advocacy at work. We’re committed to providing our reps with the skills and knowledge they need to excel, and we’re excited to share an update on our training programme.
Fundamentals Training on Track
We’re thrilled to announce that we are still on track to complete our core Fundamentals training for all union representatives in the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year. This essential course equips our reps with the foundational skills needed to confidently handle workplace issues, represent members effectively, and navigate industrial relations. Upon completion of the Fundamentals course, reps will be invited to a special facilitated workshop. This session is all about bridging the gap between theory and the real world.
We’ll focus on:
- Applying your new skills to real-life scenarios.
- Understanding where to get support and resources when you need them.
- Sharing experiences and best practices with fellow reps.
This workshop is designed to build your confidence and ensure you feel fully prepared to make a real difference for the members you represent
Further Your Skills with the TUC and AU
Our internal training is will go beyond this and help you navigate complex topics such as supporting Job Security consultations and dealing with health & safety. This is still just the beginning. We also strongly encourage all reps and members interested in getting more involved to explore the wide range of courses offered by the Trades Union Congress (TUC). The TUC provides accredited, high-quality training on everything from employment law and health & safety to negotiation skills and organising. These courses are a fantastic way to deepen your knowledge and specialise in areas you’re passionate about. Check out the TUC Education website to see what’s on offer.
