As a union representative, you’re the vital link between members and the union, providing essential support and a voice for your colleagues. Your work is the foundation of our collective strength, and we want to thank you for your commitment. Now, we need your help to make our union even stronger.

Why We Need More Reps in Every Corner

A union’s strength lies in its presence and its ability to connect with every member. To do that effectively, we need a network of reps that truly reflects our membership. We have members in different buildings and departments Too often, a member might not know who their rep is, simply because there isn’t one in their immediate work area as we already have a rep in your department (You!) . When members can see and easily talk to a rep in their own team, they feel more connected, supported, and confident.

Your Role: Why You Are the Best Recruiters

You know your colleagues better than anyone. You see who people naturally turn to for advice. You know who is passionate about fairness, who is a good listener, and who isn’t afraid to speak up for others. These are the qualities of a fantastic future union rep.

As a trusted representative, your encouragement can make all the difference. Many potential reps simply need someone to tap them on the shoulder and say, “Have you ever thought about becoming a rep? I think you’d be great at it.”

What’s the Next Step?

1. Identify Potential Reps: Think about colleagues outside your department or Branch who you believe have the right qualities.
2. Start a Conversation: Talk to them about what being a rep involves. Share your own experiences and explain the difference they could make.
3. Highlight the Support: Let them know they won’t be thrown in at the deep end. We provide comprehensive training, starting with our core Fundamentals course, and offer ongoing support and mentorship from experienced reps like you.

By helping us grow our team of reps, you are directly investing in the strength and future of our union. Together, we can build a more visible, accessible, and powerful network for every single member. All the full time officials will also be happy to speak to anyone interested.
