Welcome to the Team
We are delighted to announce that Saiqa Manzoor, from 1st January, has officially started her new role as Recruitment and Retention Officer for Advance Union. Many of you will know Saiqa as her time as a very active rep based out fo Bradford. After 22 years in the bank, Saiqa has now moved to Advance and will play a key role in leading the union’s recruitment and retention strategy.
Q&A with Saiqa…
What attracted you to this role and to working here?
I’ve always been passionate about making sure people feel supported and treated fairly, so the chance to do that every day was a huge pull for me. What really attracted me was the culture — the sense that this union genuinely cares about colleagues and wants to empower them, not just represent them. It felt like the right place to put my energy and make a real difference
What does your role involve (in a nutshell)?
My role is all about growing and strengthening our membership. That includes engaging with colleagues, supporting reps, improving visibility on site, and making sure people understand the protections and support the union offers. I also work closely with teams to build trust and ensure members feel heard.
What are you most excited about in your new role?
I’m excited about meeting colleagues across different sites/branches, building relationships, and helping reps feel empowered in their roles. I’m also looking forward to shaping recruitment strategies that genuinely reflect what colleagues need and what matters to them. I want to build momentum with our reps and create a real sense of visibility and presence across our sites.
What skills or experience are you bringing to the team?
I bring strong communication skills, a lot of empathy, and a natural ability to connect with people. I’m good at breaking down barriers, having honest conversations, and helping colleagues feel comfortable opening up. I’m comfortable building networks and shaping an approach that works in the real world, not just on paper.
What’s one thing you’re looking forward to learning?
I’m keen to learn of the different workplace cultures across our recognised sites/branches and learn more about the challenges colleagues face day to day. The more I understand their world, the better I can tailor our recruitment and retention work to genuinely support them.
What’s your favourite way to spend time outside of work?
Outside of work, I’m all about good company and good energy — spending time with family and friends, exploring new places, and enjoying anything that helps me switch off and recharge. Whether it’s food, travel, or a great series, I love anything that brings a bit of joy and balance.
Fun / Interesting Fact Options
I can strike up a conversation with absolutely anyone — colleagues, strangers, the vending machine if needed. Perfect for recruitment.
Tea or coffee (or something else)?
Neither! I’m a soft‑drink person. Give me something fizzy and I’m instantly more productive (and slightly more chaotic).
What’s your go‑to playlist, podcast, or TV show right now?
I’ve absolutely loved watching Bridgerton and Peaky Blinders — depending on my mood, I’m either living for the drama and romance or channelling my inner Shelby.
Right now, my baby has fully taken charge of the TV… so it’s Mrs Rachel on repeat in our house. I know all the songs, whether I like it or not.
