General Secretary News
Welcome to our latest member E-Mag. As we move through the year, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we can achieve when we stand together with a shared vision and a collective voice.
Winning Real Improvements Together
Our strength as a union lies entirely in our collective voice. This has been demonstrated recently through real, tangible enhancements to your terms and conditions:
- Paid Carer’s Leave: We have worked in Partnership with the Bank to deliver enhanced provisions to better support members balancing work with caring responsibilities.
- Enhanced Pay on Promotion: Following a motion raised directly at Conference Lite, we’ve successfully agreed on an enhanced pay framework on promotion, ensuring your hard work and career progression are fairly recognized.
We are also thrilled to welcome the recent announcement regarding an amnesty on branch closures. This is something Advance Union has long championed through constructive collective consultation, and it will provide our members across the branch network with much-needed stability and peace of mind.
Shape the Future: Upcoming Rep Elections
Union democracy and member representation are at the heart of everything we do. On September 1st, nominations and voting open for:
- Area Committee Representatives
- National Executive Committee (NEC) Representatives
Being a union rep is a genuinely rewarding role where you can make a real, positive difference in the workplace. If you have ever considered getting more involved, I warmly invite you to reach out and make inquiries about the activities our reps undertake and how you can step up.
Supporting You Through the Cost of Living Crisis
The ongoing cost of living crisis continues to bite, making financial security more important than ever. That is why I am immensely proud to announce that Advance Union has signed up as a supporter of the Financial Services Skills Compact, alongside extending our long-running affiliation with the Real Living Wage.
While we acknowledge some of the recent measures announced by the government, we know there is still much more to be done to ensure fair compensation. To help us campaign effectively on your behalf, look out for our next pay survey landing in mid-August, where we will ask for your thoughts and experiences on key pay-related issues.
Growing Our Movement
We have seen fantastic numbers of new colleagues joining Advance Union recently, showing just how valued our independent voice is in the workplace. However, there is always more to do to build our collective strength.
Please encourage your colleagues and friends to take advantage of our “Starter for 10” campaign to experience the benefits of membership firsthand. Don’t forget we now offer membership to everyone, regardless of employer, and, in addition to expert advice, we have a growing range of excellent additional member benefits, such as Advance Protect and Advance Rewards.
Thank you for your continued support, engagement, and solidarity. Together, we are stronger.
