Useful points to talk to non-members about what Advance does

When talking to non-members, you may often get asked: “What does the Union do?” Here are a few pointers…..

  • Negotiate higher pay
Advance bargains for wages, raises, bonuses, and pay scales that are often better than those in non-Union workplaces.
  • Improve workplace safety
Push to maintain safer working conditions, proper equipment, and compliance with Health and Safety Laws.
  • Protect against Unfair Dismissal
Ensure that the Bank follows fair disciplinary and termination procedures.
  • Provide representation in disputes
If you have a grievance, are attending a disciplinary meeting, or are experiencing a conflict with management, a Union Representative can accompany and support you.
  • Negotiate benefits
This can include pensions, healthcare, sick pay, parental leave, holiday entitlement, and overtime policies.
  • Help enforce Employment Rights
Advance assists members in understanding and asserting legal rights related to contracts, discrimination, harassment, and working hours.
  • Collectively bargain for better working conditions
Advance will negotiate schedules, staffing levels, breaks, remote work policies, and workload expectations.
  • Offer legal support or advice
Advance provides access to Employment Lawyers or Legal Assistance for workplace-related issues.
  • Give workers a collective voice
Instead of employees negotiating individually, unions organise workers to influence company policies and broader labour laws more effectively.
