Evolving Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy

At this year’s conference, Advance Union reaffirmed its commitment to equality, inclusion, and dignity for all member Recent developments, including the Supreme Court’s ruling on biological women, unsettling demonstrations against minority groups and open use of inflammatory, degrading, and inappropriate language in society, are very disturbing. While these changes may feel unsettling, they highlight the need for solidarity and proactive action.

Why This Matters

These events can affect many of our members who may feel vulnerable. Inclusion isn’t optional—it’s a core value. Our mission: ensure every member feels seen, safe, and supported.

Our Commitment

Conference delegates agreed that solidarity must mean action and agreed that Advance will:

  • Issue a public statement reaffirming support for LGBT+ members: “We see you, and we stand with you—now and always.”
  • Work with Santander and other employers to review policies, strengthen protections, and foster inclusive cultures..
  • Deliver targeted training for reps and staff to deepen understanding and allyship.
  • Campaign against discrimination and advocate for equality at work and beyond.

Your Role

We need you. Advance Union representatives are invited to help evolve our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policy by becoming a voice for minority groups as an equality representative.  Your insights ensure that our approach reflects the needs of all members, especially those from marginalised communities.

If you’re passionate about creating workplaces where everyone can be themselves, join us in shaping policy, driving awareness, and standing for equality as we develop our first DEI policy and strategy.
