Basic Reps Training Now Available Online

Advance Union has launched a new online basic training program for Advance Union representatives, making it easier than ever to learn, develop skills, and gain confidence in your role. The courses are designed to be flexible, allowing you to study at your own pace through a simple read-and-learn format.

Each section of the training is clearly structured. As you work through the material, you can mark sections as “Mark Complete”, helping you track your progress and stay motivated. To reinforce your learning, there are also short multiple-choice questions at key points, ensuring you understand the most important topics before moving on.

What’s Included

There are currently three core courses available:

• Advance Union Membership Benefits
  This course explains the full range of benefits available to members, helping reps clearly understand what support the union provides and how to promote these advantages in the workplace.
• All About Advance Union
  This course gives an overview of the union, including its structure, purpose, and how it supports members across different roles and industries.
• Understanding Your Role as a Workplace Representative
  This course focuses on the key responsibilities of a rep, providing practical guidance on how to represent colleagues, handle issues, and act as a link between members and the union.

Whether you are new to the role or looking to refresh your knowledge, this training provides a solid foundation to help you support members confidently and effectively.  Don’t forget reasonable time off can be requested if needed to complete the training through your manager.  We don’t anticipate this taking more than 4-5 hours.

Existing Representatives who wish to apply for being a representative of Advance Union as their term expires at the end of 2026, will have needed to complete this training in order to seek nomination to remain as a representative and from 2027 onwards this will be mandatory for all new representatives in the first three months of their new term.
