Opportunity for Advance Union Representatives – Full time Senior Caseworker & Organiser Secondments
Advance Union is seeking applications from experienced and motivated representatives for two Senior Caseworker & Organiser roles, available on a 12-month fixed-term secondment basis from their roles at Santander. You will remain a Santander employee.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Advance Union team and play a key role in supporting members across Santander UK. The successful candidates will work nationally, representing members on workplace issues, building relationships with stakeholders, supporting recruitment and engagement activities, and helping Advance Union remain the informed voice at work.
The role would suit representatives who have developed strong case-handling and advocacy skills, are confident engaging with colleagues at all levels, and are passionate about making a positive difference to members’ working lives.
What the role involves
Key responsibilities include:
- Representing members in formal and informal meetings.
- Handling disciplinary, grievance and performance cases.
- Supporting the review of workplace policies and employment processes where appropriate.
- Building effective working relationships on behalf of Advance Union.
- Supporting organising and recruitment activity across the Union.
The roles are based at Santander’s primary sites but have a national remit so that some travel will be required.
What we’re looking for
We’re interested in hearing from representatives who can demonstrate:
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- Experience supporting or representing members.
- The ability to manage a varied workload and multiple cases.
- A commitment to fairness, inclusion and member advocacy.
- Experience coaching or supporting others (preferred)
- The confidence to work with stakeholders at all levels.
Previous trade union casework or employee relations experience would be advantageous, but is not essential for the right candidate.
Important information
- Two vacancies available -12-month secondments. No change to salary or out-of-performance management framework, so will receive a standard rating, as will your grade or S Band.
- The roles will be contracted to a primary work location (as per the Bank’s current recruitment policy)
- Successful candidates will move into the role on their current salary and terms, with no promotional increase attached to the secondment.
- The roles report to Advance Union management, reflecting the union’s independence from Santander.
