When workplace events feel unfair, it is tempting to focus only on what happened. For union representatives, it also matters whether the issue can lead to an employment tribunal claim, and how time-sensitive it is. Early “trigger spotting” helps you support the member to protect their position while still giving the employer a fair chance to resolve the matter internally.
Strategically as a union we seem employers working with us in partnership – and its therefore important we look after our members needs and protections, yet remain focused on working with employers to resolve matters but as caseworkers are fully knowledgeable on employment legal processes to ensure we do not detriment a member when dealing with thier case.
